ABOUT the project

With the revitalization of three brownfield sites and the creation of generous public open spaces, Grand Street Commons is envisioned as a new, neighborhood activity hub. A transit-oriented development within Seattle’s Mount Baker Urban Village this project will be composed affordable and market rate housing, a variety of retail and commercial uses, green public spaces and pedestrian friendly streets – part of a system linking riders to the nearby light rail station.

To improve pedestrian and cyclist circulation and safety, the connection of Grand Street to Rainier Avenue will be realigned for user clarity and softly meandered to calm traffic flow. Reduced vehicular surface is reclaimed for two public plazas and numerous eddy spaces that will welcome neighborhood events and interaction.

In addition to preserving the site’s mature trees, pedestrian amenities such as seating, lighting, and an interactive water feature, will be incorporated along with retail frontages to bring vitality and pedestrian accommodation to street level.
