about the project

HEWITT designed the new Sounder Rail Station in Edmonds, WA. The goal was to improve pedestrian access and safety. The design of a new passenger loading platform was integral in achieving this. The addition of four new passenger shelters and new way-finding and identification signage, allows commuters to easily navigate to their destinations.  Increased passenger amenities and new safety railings for the length of the platform provide increased accessibility as well. The station, adjacent to Edmonds-Kingston ferry and a Community Transit bus station, provides passengers quick passage to Seattle and beyond.

In keeping with Sound Transit and City of Edmonds art programs, the project was charged with creating a permanent home for Standing Wave, a 15-foot sculpture by artist Gerard Tsutakawa that had previously been located at another site in downtown Edmonds. Incorporated into the new platform railings at the south end of the station were four new art panels, also designed by Gerard Tsutakawa.
