TRAVEL CORRIDOR

The travel corridor between the City of Lynnwood and downtown Seattle is subject to heavy traffic, especially during peak commute times. This project extends light rail transit services from the Northgate Link Station to Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, and Lynnwood, providing mobility options for connections to downtown Seattle and beyond.

STATION SITING

During preliminary engineering and environmental analysis, HEWITT provided architecture and urban design services to help determine the preferred station locations and generate alternative station layouts and urban design diagrams along the 8.5 mile corridor extending north from Northgate Station to Lynnwood Transit Center to a preliminary design level.

DESIGN ALTERNATIVES

Our effort involved station alternatives analysis and station planning for four new light rail stations – Shoreline South/145th; Shoreline North/185th; Mountlake Terrace; and Lynnwood City Center, as well as two potential future stations at 130th and 220th. Station program includes parking garages for the Shoreline and Lynnwood stations, bicycle storage, bus program, paratransit, and drop-off / pick-up.

NEIGHBORHOOD INTEGRATION

For the Lynnwood station, integration with the existing transit center is key, while keeping the guideway infrastructure away from the neighborhood. For Mountlake Terrace station, the design straddles 236th Ave to activate future development to the south.
